A Moment to Reflect
I just had to share the beauty and poignancy of the cover of the November 17, 2008 issue of The New Yorker (above) by Bob Staake titled “Reflection.” The simplicity of the illuminated Lincoln Memorial reflected in the reflecting pool captures this moment in America when the actions taken by Abraham Lincoln a century and a half ago have finally reached fruition and the gaping wound of slavery in America’s past can finally begin to heal. As much as Barack Obama compels us to look hopefully to the future, we should pause to reflect on the past as well.
